Easy and cost effective administration of thin client work groups
New version of IGEL’s powerful Linux firmware allows a thin client to be cloned to its neighbors, reducing costs and infrastructure complexity
Fort Lauderdale, Fla., US, 23rd October 2006 - IGEL Technology today announced the release of a new version of it’s Linux firmware that allows “Buddy Update,” making management of small to medium sized groups of IGEL thin clients easy and even more affordable.
Buddy Update allows administrators to nominate a “mother” thin client in a workgroup that can then be cloned to other IGEL thin clients on the network, negating the need for an FTP server to hold images and also reducing bandwidth hungry data exchanges.
“Buddy update further reduces the cost and complexity of managing a server-based computing environment with IGEL thin clients, especially for smaller companies or those with lots of small remote locations,” said Stephen Yeo, IGEL Worldwide Strategic Marketing Director. “IGEL’s management tools and breadth of product range continue to set us apart in the market.”
Buddy update is available immediately for no additional cost. Any IGEL Linux terminal with the latest firmware can act as a workgroup buddy when combined with IGEL Remote Manager suite, bundled free with all IGEL thin clients.
