IGEL Technology Reveals State-of-the-art Remote Management Features for Enterprise-wide Efficiency
IGEL’s Latest Microsoft® Windows® XP Embedded Firmware and Remote Management Suite Set Standard for Thin Client Usability and Management
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – June 11, 2007 – IGEL Technology today unveiled the latest upgrades to its Windows XP Embedded firmware and Remote Management Suite. Designed for enterprise-wide, large-scale deployments, these new features set the standard for thin client usability and management.
The Windows XP Embedded firmware includes:
- Partial Update Mechanism: This feature improves application installations and updates on thin clients by only updating the new or modified files - saving network bandwidth, reducing administration time and complexity. It also allows administrators to create customized packages for firmware updates to meet their specific needs, increasing control and reducing deployment costs.
- Shared Workstations: The Citrix® Password Manager™ agent is included as standard with the latest version of IGEL’s Windows XP Embedded firmware. The Citrix agent is fully integrated into the IGEL Remote Management Suite allowing out-of-the-box deployment and simple point-and-click management. The shared workstation features allow users to roam between IGEL XPe devices using a Gemalto .Net smart card and have the IGEL devices boot all server-based and local applications within 10 seconds. This can reduce log-in times for roaming workers by over 90 percent, boosting the productivity of some workers such as nurses by more than 20 percent.
- Automatic Active Directory Registration: This feature allows time efficient “unattended” roll-out of IGEL thin clients in Microsoft Active Directory environments.
- Citrix ICA Client 10: The latest Citrix ICA client 10 is included as standard.
Commenting on the firmware announcement, Stephen Yeo, worldwide strategic marketing director for IGEL Technology, said: “IGEL has brought its outstanding technical expertise to the Windows environment, offering users and IT administrators the very best Windows XP Embedded thin client solutions available in the market today.”
In addition to the Windows XP Embedded upgrade, IGEL also launched the latest version of its industry-leading Remote Management Suite. Designed to allow IT administrators to manage thousands of IGEL thin clients across wide area networks, the latest features include security, compliance and extended functionality improvements, such as:
- Logging System: All IGEL device activities, such as configuration changes, boot, wake-on-LAN and shutdown are recorded by the IGEL Remote Management Suite. This allows IT administrators to monitor access to their IT infrastructure rather than the traditional access monitoring of the network.
- Extended remote management support for modern widescreen video resolutions, supported by IGEL devices. This allows organizations to roll out new widescreen monitors without having to physically visit devices and change their screen resolutions.
- Full support for the Microsoft Vista operating system.
- High availability of the IGEL management server using failover clustering with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database.
“To reap the full benefits of thin client computing, remote management is essential. In fact, effective remote management is likely to double the total cost of ownership savings for most thin client users,” said Stephen Yeo. “This upgrade to the IGEL Remote Management Suite means the best thin client administration software on the market just got even better.”
The Windows XP Embedded firmware and IGEL Remote Management Suite are available immediately.
