The perfect technology for the Financial Sector

The competitiveness in the banking industry will only continue to intensify over the coming years. Under these conditions, IT is playing a pivotal role, with a focus on modernizing IT infrastructures and permanently cutting costs. Two primary features of centralized and standardized IT services are server-based computing and desktop virtualization with thin clients. This lean approach allows employees to always access the same desktop, from anywhere: in the company headquarters, in branch offices or even in their home office. With solutions developed by IGEL, work sessions can even be transferred from one workstation to another without having to restart the applications each time. But that’s not all. IGEL thin clients can cut power consumption by up to 51%, save money and help protect the environment through less use of materials, less transport and less electronic waste (e-waste).

Customer Stories - Banks and Financial Service Providers

HSBC Trinkaus (Germany / Luxembourg)

HSBC Trinkaus uses IGEL thin clients as graphics-intensive desktops in a Citrix-type, server-based computing (SBC) environment.

HSBC Trinkaus, a private bank located in Düsseldorf, Germany, is well known for making fast, well-informed decisions and having the highest degree of flexibility. This applies to its duties as a securities dealer for other financial institutions as well as a partner for wealthy clients, sophisticated small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), corporate groups and institutional customers. In its efforts to consistently ensure the highest levels of banking technology and services, HSBC Trinkaus constantly upgrades its information and communications systems to meet the latest expectations of the market. This general policy also firmly applies to its IT workstations used by some 3,000 employees in 15 offices located in Germany and Luxembourg.

Deutsche Börse Systems (Germany)

Different user scenarios, standardized management – Deutsche Börse Systems uses IGEL thin clients on the trading floor, for system monitoring and at its international serversites.

Whenever a stockbroker determines the fair market price of a security on the German Stock Exchange (Deutsche Börse) in Frankfurt, he has to be able to depend 100% on the IT system. In the worst case, critical failures can bring trading to stand still. Preventing such risks has been the job of Deutsche Börse Systems AG (DBS) since 1997. With over 1,000 employees, DBS is responsible for all of the IT systems used by the world’s largest stock exchange organization. In doing so, the DBS not only designs, builds and operates the technological infrastructure of the German Stock Exchange but also looks after 16 other exchanges around the world. A special focus of its operations in Frankfurt is ensuring the availability of end devices on the trading floor. It is there and in other application areas that thin clients ensure a secure, reliable and efficient computing environment.

Sparkasse Osnabrück (Germany)

The Sparkasse Osnabrück is migrating from OS/2 and Windows NT to secure thin client workstations from IGEL. Modern management tools relieve the IT budget.

The Sparkasse Osnabrück can look back on more than 180 years of success. With the fusion of the Kreis (District) and Stadt (Town) Sparkasse Osnabrück in May 1997, the bank which specializes in private and medium-size customers has grown to 60 branches with around 1400 employees. The bank is adapting its IT infrastructure to the tough competition in the financial service provision branch with an efficient thin client architecture.

Sparkasse Krefeld (Germany)

Server-based computing pioneer Sparkasse Krefeld saves up to 75 percent of workstation costs for PCs with IGEL Thin Clients. Thin Client leasing pays for itself even in the case of premature replacement investments.

The Sparkasse Krefeld is viewed as one of the pioneers of server-based computing. As one of the first institutions from the German Association of Savings Banks to do so, the Sparkasse Krefeld, with 1,850 employees and a balance sheet total of £ 5,029 milliard (2005), has been using a terminal server since the middle of the 1990’s to make IT applications available centrally. Furthermore, the Sparkasse has been pursuing a successful Thin Client strategy since 2003 in order to minimise the support and leasing costs for its 56 branches and six self-service centres on a sustained basis.

The German subsidiary of the Netherlands-based European market leader in car pool leasing handles some 21,000 accounts, making it one of the industry leaders in business car pool leasing and management. BAWAG P.S.K. Leasing (Austria)

BAWAG P.S.K. Leasing is migrating fluently to the latest Clever Client generation from IGEL Technology with the help of upgrade kits for IBM-Net Vista terminals.

BAWAG P.S.K. Leasing stands for confidential consultation on the financing of private or commercial investments. The company represents the competence centre for property, movable property and car leasing of the BAWAG P.S.K., one of the largest Austrian high-street banks. BAWAG P.S.K. commits itself to a high quality level with binding contract standards. Thus the private car leasing contracts, for example, were awarded the quality seal “Leasing OK!” from the Association of Austrian Leasing Companies (Verband österreichischer Leasinggesellschaftes – VÖL). But internally, the leasing experts also have a good sense of quality and profitability, as the latest IT migration project proves.
