Stoke Canon Primary School
IGEL thin clients top of the class at Stoke Canon Primary School.
A primary school in the Devon countryside may at fi rst seem an
unlikely setting for technology innovation in education but Stoke Canon
Primary School, just outside Exeter, has a history of making good use
of IT to assist its 170 pupils. One of the fi rst primary schools to
install and network computers in the classroom in the 1980s, Stoke
Canon, with the help of its Head Malcolm Hunt, is now at the forefront
of the thin client revolution in the classroom. “Our computing
infrastructure was beginning to creak and we were looking into
upgrading our network and PCs,” said Malcolm Hunt. “We were recommended
to look at IGEL thin clients and I was instantly impressed by what I
saw.”

Maastricht University
Maastricht University upgrades network and goes digital with IGEL
At present, Holland's Universities and Colleges are very popular. In addition to the bonus of living abroad, the characteristic concept of the "problem based learning" particularly finds favor with foreign students. Satisfactory research facilities and modern, functional workstations are substantial for the success of the pioneering learning principle which focuses on independent work in small groups of up to 10 persons with individual tutor care. The newly designed Maastricht University Library justifies this claim technologically with a Server-based computing architecture and centrally administrated Thin Clients. 550 of the space-saving and economical end devices allow students access to digital stores of knowledge and book summaries from different professional libraries.
