Secure connections
Thin clients do not exchange application data with the server, rather only control codes from the monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. Despite this, keyboard input, such as passwords, has to be protected from being intercepted. IGEL Universal Desktops support all popular security standards and also offer a broad range of additional software clients for enhanced data security. These include:
- Virtual Private Networks: Cisco VPN Client and NCP Secure Client / NCP GovNet Client for setting up a highly secure, encrypted VPN tunnel, support for PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) and L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol)
- Secure WLAN connections with Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA)
- Secure host connections: Integrated Kerberos client including single sign-on
- Other software clients: Following installation of a Windows XP or Linux driver in the free firmware area (only firmware with Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard or IGEL Linux)
Application scenarios:
- Public Sector: Secure exchange of data in the public sector
- Retail: Secure connection of stores and branch offices
- Home Office: Secure connection of home offices
- Legacy Host Systems: Secure access to mainframes, etc.
