vmworld2-300x276VMworld 2016 was a big success for our IGEL team of super stars! We were booked from day to night, and were gratified to see that IGEL’s thin client approach is the best fit for organizations needing a secure thin client solution that can also support the way people use their desktops today, in different locations, on different devices, and with more use of graphics.

We listened to customers express a desire for a better visual experience with graphics and videos, and talk about perfect timing — at VMworld we announced the integration of the VMware® Horizon 7 platform and the VMware Blast Extreme Protocol into our thin client software. And, when we demonstrated our hardware accelerated integration it was an eye opener! Our customers were blown away when they saw the quality of YouTube videos, a level far superior to what they were experiencing before.

Our channel partners are saying IGEL’s integration with VMware Blast Extreme Protocol is greatly narrowing the gap between a PC visual experience and one delivered by a thin client. IGEL has considerably raised the bar with this integration as it provides a level of flexibility and performance that goes well beyond what has been available previously through the thin client platform. Some of the key advantages are:

  • Quick integration of new feature sets: IGEL’s Universal Management Suite (UMS) makes it easy to centrally configure and add new features via UMS firmware updates and UMS profile management. Additionally, new peripherals can be easily supported by adding virtual channels to the software.
  • Industry-standard codecs: Through the server-based hardware acceleration available with VMware Horizon 7 and the VMware Blast Extreme Protocol leveraging H.264 and JPEG/PNG codecs, IGEL’s thin and zero clients can provide the same level of viewing intensity when it comes to 3D graphics and video, as end users are able to experience via a standard desktop or laptop PC.
  • Centralized management: Through the IGEL UMS, IT organizations can manage all IGEL-based and non-IGEL thin clients running the IGEL Linux-OS operating system, and a single profile in the UMS can configure any VMware Horizon thin clients operating within the infrastructure
  • Linux partitioning: Through the IGEL UMS, with a single click IT organizations can activate only the functionalities they need to run VMware Blast Extreme Protocol, which limits the amount of active code in the system and reduces the size of the firmware to only what is necessary. Additionally, through partitioning all available features are pre-installed in the system — no additional software deployment is required.

On the social side, our team had a lot of fun working our booth raffle for the Parrot Bebop Drone. The lucky winner was Eric Roy, system administrator at Groupe Deschenes. If a hedgehog happens to turn up in your company, it had its first home at our booth! Stalking a hedgehog and posting a selfie with our mascot earned you a ticket toward the raffle.

Next we will be at VMworld 2016 Europe in Barcelona October 17 to 20th. This Fall, you’ll also see us at the following VMUG user groups:

September 27, Dallas/Ft. Worth

October 18, Phoenix

October 19, Salt Lake City

November 15, Portland

Hope to see you at upcoming events and check back here for the latest news on how IGEL is leading thin client technology innovations.
