IGEL Technology Upgrades UD9 Series Endpoints

Intel® Celeron® J1900 quad core processor helps IGEL UD9 series endpoints effortlessly meet the demands of today’s modern workspace environments, while offering room for future growth

New York, April 13, 2016 – IGEL Technology, a world leader in the development of powerful workspace management software, software-defined endpoints, and thin and zero client solutions, today announced that it has enhanced the performance of its Universal Desktop 9 (UD9) series endpoints with the addition of an Intel Celeron J1900 quad core processor.

Offering up to 2.42GHz of processing power and backed by 2GB of DDR3L RAM memory, the Intel Celeron J1900 quad core processor supports quick and easy access to virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments, as well as multimedia and web-base applications, especially in environments where there is high demand for multitasking capabilities.

“IGEL’s high-performance UD9 series endpoints are uniquely designed to meet the requirements of enterprises where significant amounts of computing resources are required to support complex applications such a graphic and multimedia design, and unified communications and collaboration,” said Simon Richards, Managing Director, IGEL North America. “Now, powered by the Intel J1900 quad processor, the UD9 can effortlessly meet the demands of today’s modern workspace environments, while at the same time providing enough processing power to enable organizations to scale up to meet future requirements, without having to invest in new hardware.”

Compact Design Features High-Performance Display and Communication Capabilities

Housed in the same slim chassis as IGEL’s existing UD9 devices and measuring 9.3 x 20.2 x 14.3 inches, the enhanced endpoint offers a SATA SSD flash memory ranging from 2GB (IGEL Linux V5 model) to 8GB (Microsoft Windows® Embedded Standard 7 model) to support high-end graphics, 3D and multimedia applications.

Various interfaces and a smartcard reader

With its numerous interfaces and options, the IGEL UD9 is particularly suitable for point of sale use, e.g. as a presentation, checkout or web terminal. For even greater flexibility, the pivot function allows the display to be turned 90°. The standard connections include two fast USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0 ports. On top of this, there is a PS/2 connection, a serial interface and a DisplayPort. To complement the 1 Gbit Ethernet interface, IGEL offers an 802.11 a/b/g/n-standard WLAN option for the UD9. An optional integrated smartcard reader also provides the basis for secure two-factor authentication solutions and multi-user scenarios with changing workstations.

The IGEL UD9’s 21.5-inch display offers full high-definition (HD) resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixel, and it also comes with an integrated DisplayPort that includes a Dualview DVI port, and supports HD resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. The IGEL UD9 display can also pivot 90-degrees offering added flexibility in a variety of applications and environments where space is limited including information kiosks; research terminals in libraries or schools; point-of-sale terminals including presentation, checkout and web-connected devices in retail outlets or restaurants; digital signage terminals; patient information terminals in doctors offices or clinics; and, banking terminals.

Popular communications protocols supported by the IGEL UD9 endpoints include Citrix HDX, VMware Horizon and Microsoft RDP including RemoteFX. The IGEL UD9 endpoints also support IGEL Linux V5 and Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard operating systems. Additionally, an optional integrated smartcard reader available with the IGEL UD9 endpoints supports secure two-factor authentication for multiple users on a single workstation. Other key features include two USB 3.0 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, a P2/2 connection, and 1 Gbit Ethernet serial interface that features 802.11 a/b/g/n-standard WLAN capabilities.

“With so many interfaces and capabilities, our channel partners here in North America will find that in addition to supporting high-end multimedia capabilities, the IGEL UD9 endpoints well-suited for a variety of applications across the public and private sectors including education, government, financial services, healthcare and retail,” said Gary Sharp, Sales Director for North America, IGEL Technology.

Simple and Secure Management of UD9 Endpoints

The IGEL Universal Management Suite 5 (UMS 5) software is available to help IT organizations more efficiently manage their workspace environments, while reducing the cost, time and effort associated with the remote management of UD9 endpoints running the IGEL Linux or Microsoft Windows 7 operating systems.
