Introducing the IGEL OS

In a recent survey conducted by Microsoft, it was found that 50 percent of IT managers in Australia are seeing a shortage of skilled staff able to help manage their cloud applications. This came up third on the list, right after security and data analytics skills. With a high level of virtualisation in play across the country, and a greater adoption of hybrid cloud solutions expected over the next 12 to 18 months, it is fairly evident that a lot of enterprises, both large and small, are moving their systems and operations into the cloud and will need a fast, simple and reliable way of accessing and maintaining them.

Enter IGEL, from stage left. While the company has traditionally been known as a provider of very high quality thin and zero client hardware, the past couple of years have seen a shift in focus to software solutions, based on the same ethos that drove success in the hardware market; produce a simple, effective solution that will save companies time, effort and money.

The IGEL operating system is able to bring all elements of a virtual network together, regardless of what vendor they come from, and offer a simple means for managing them. This incorporates a single touchpoint for device management, software and firmware updates, security, application delivery and more.

Clearly, this offers an enterprise exactly the type of solution that they are looking for, and to some extent will negate the shortage of staff skilled in the area of application delivery and management. With an operating system that is fast, intuitive and easy to use, a virtual desktop environment offers admins a means toward providing a modern, mobile, flexible architecture that will suit the needs of many companies today.
