Audi modernizes production and optimizes processes with IGEL

Audi has been successfully using IGEL thin clients in production for several years. They were first used in a pilot project for the automation and visualization of test results. One example of this is a proof of concept (PoC) in door pre-assembly, where IGEL end devices displayed quality data directly at the assembly workstation.

IGEL thin clients were also used in another project, “Edge Cloud 4 Production,” with the aim to virtualize on-premises clients and efficiently display production data.

The main areas of application for IGEL thin clients at Audi are diverse and innovative:

Employee support in the production process
IGEL and Omnissa Horizon serve as a platform for innovative applications that guide employees through complex assembly and testing processes. This increases process reliability and supports flawless production. One example is the “Edge Cloud 4 Production” project.

Centralized management and scalability

The IGEL Universal Management Suite centrally manages all endpoints, configures them, and provides them with updates. This not only simplifies operation but also enables flexible scaling to additional locations as needed.

Following the successful piloting of IGEL thin clients in selected small production areas, their use was gradually expanded. The number of clients in use has risen steadily.

Overall, IGEL thin clients are now a central component of the digital transformation at Audi. They play a key role in modernizing production and optimizing processes.
